Women's Day Health and Soccer Day Norwood Park
MMC of Health Mpho Phalatse braved the cold and spent Saturday morning at Norwood Park cheering on the Girls soccer teams. The Norwood Young Stars in Orange and Joburg United FC. in White and Red. The Norwood Young Stars Girls Team has just been playing for two weeks and is completely delighted that Coach Venita Masisi has opened up the club to girls.
Anyone interested in joining please contact her on 076 696 7228.
After the game MMC Phalatse gave a Health Talk to the girls and to women of the community. As you will have seen from the previous newsletter there were also various health tests organised for the community. The women and girls had the opportunity to chat to the MMC and to ask her questions about health and lifestyle issues.
A big thanks to MMC Phalatse for supporting this event and to Venita Masisi, Belinda Echeozonjoku and Sharon Mtshali for organising it. Also thanks again to NORA and the Norwood residents who support these events by giving access to the park. Once the Paterson Park Rec Centre is completed they will be able to use those facilities once again. At present it is a great challenge for the Young Stars to train and practice.
Venita and her daughter Nuhrhan give of their time completely voluntarily and there is no cost to the 6 boys teams and 2 girls teams to join and play. On a personal level, having seen how dedicated they are to helping these youngsters and keeping them off the streets, I want to mention that any spare kit or equipment they could use would be very much appreciated.
