ABOUT THE PUBLIC MEETING
Our Executive Mayor Herman Mashaba will be providing an insight into successes and some of the challenges of our DA led coalition local government. Time permitting our Executive Mayor will be able to address some local issues.
COUNCILLORS DUTIES
Part of a Councillors duties is to attend numerous meeting that can end at 1a.m. In these circumstances I am unable to respond to the plethora of WHATSAPP or TELEGRAM groups and also follow SOCIAL MEDIA groups. This is physical impossible to peruse so many groups and respond to so many comments, many that may not be relevant to me as a Councillor.
I should emphasize that role a Councillor is to have an oversight of issues with their WARD and to attend to policy making process at council. A Councillor relies of the City of Joburg’s call centre and administrative officials to assist residents diligently and not to usurp the City of Joburg’s functions. Once a resident has exhausted the processes for reporting issues to the City of Joburg, my function would to escalate your issue to head of the relevant department. As a Councillor we rely on City of Joburg’s officials. Your escalation is based on the City Joburg Service standards.

LOCAL ISSUES TO WARD 72
As your new Councillor I am becoming more acquainted issues in our precinct. I inherited some long standing issues from Steven Kruger. Many residents praised Steven for being fastidious assisting residents with their biling issues.
At the public meeting on the 22 August '18 our WARD 72 committee will be present to note any local issue. For residents who are members of this group your SRAJ committee is well versed with logging issues with the City of Joburg and they able to assist you. In the event that the SRAJ are unable to assist please contact me.
LOCAL UPDATE
The Raedene Bottle Store has been most helpful, cleaning up their immediate area. The management of the bottle store have given me an undertaking that they are not supplying alcohol to unemployed who frequent the car park.
BY-LAW ENFORCEMENT
The recycling group situated on Club Street across the away from Sandringham High Schools was removed after JMPD on 13 August @ 16h00.
Residents and Taxis who persist disregarding the rules of the roads are being prosecuted by the JMPD. For more information see the National Road Traffic Act. Illegal signage that is erected is being removed by JMPD BY-LAW Enforcement on a regular basis. Only signage that is approved may be placed in the streets. Please see the relevant adverting by-laws.
WHATSAPP V TELEGRAM
On average over 7000 messages are processed by specialized software that I utilise. This software has only been designed for WHATSAPP. Messages on the SRAJ TELEGRAM GROUP are unfortunately not processed. This means I could miss an import message from a resident. All DA Councillor are attached to many WHATSAPP groups which include City Power, Region Groups and other official City of Joburg groups that give us an insight into our city.
TICKET SYSTEM
Thank you to the many residents who have embraced the ticketing system. The ticket system allows me to attend to issues without having to reading through messages that are not applicable to me on the numerous groups. The purpose of ticket system to allows residents who have not been assisted by the officials of City Joburg to send me copies of all the relevant documents after an issue was brought to the attention of the relevant City of Joburgs department. I need to re-iterate that it essential that you have received a ref no. The City of Joburg embarked on putting systems into place to allow issues to be escalated. We need a starting point to establish which officials are not meeting their Service Level Agreements (SLA) with the City of Joburg.
REPORTING ISSUES ON THE GROUND
Many residents have been so helpful bring missing manhole covers, damaged and block drains and other issues to my attention. The relevant City Department and I appreciate you being the communities eyes and ears, but we need to log each issue in an orderly way that that City of Joburg is aware of the problematic areas.
I look forward to meeting you at the public meeting.
Kind Regards
Lionel Greenberg
Councillor Ward 72
